The true ABBA afficiando seeking to get all these different versions of familiar and unfamiliar tracks faces quite a task. Hopefully this list will help. It details in alphabetical order all the different versions of every song released by the band, and which CDs they can be found on. (There are still one or two that aren't officially available on CD . . . curses!) It's not a complete discography; rather it's an attempt to work out what the minimal set of CDs you need to own to be able to claim to own everything ABBA has ever officially released. (The full list of what you'd need is given at the end of this document). Carl Magnus Palm has a similar listing at the back of his excellent ABBA: The Complete Recording Sessions, but this pre-dates the release of the Thank You For The Music box set, the Spanish Oro releases and the Pa Svenska collection. There are also many excellent ABBA track listings with lyrics available on the World Wide Web (I've collected some of my favourites here).
I realise that many of the tracks I list as unavailable on CD are in fact included on the numerous bootleg CDs (for a good listing, check out Michael T's ABBAnatic page). However, these are not an ideal solution for many fans. Ethical issues are rarely a deterrent to buying a bootleg, but given the choice we would all rather own official versions. More pressingly, the sound quality on bootlegs is often appalingly low. Hello PolyGram, opportunity calling . . .
For each song I have listed the original album (or B-side) on which it first appeared; whether a digitally remastered version has been released, and where; and the existence and availability on CD of live and foreign language versions. Occasional notes are enclosed in square brackets []. I've also done my best to cross-reference songs within the list; clicking on song names will take you to the entry for that song, and clicking album titles will take you to a track listing. Have fun!

If you wanted to ensure that you had all the alternate mixes and digitally remastered versions, you would also need the following:
Cassandra, The Day Before You Came, Head Over Heels, I Am The City, I Let the Music Speak, Like An Angel Passing Through My Room, One Of Us, Should I Laugh Or Cry, Slipping Through My Fingers, Soldiers, Two For The Price Of One, Under Attack, The Visitors, When All Is Said And Done, You Owe Me OneAs a result, these songs should not have needed remastering for re-release on the PolyGram compilations. Because I'm not 100% sure that this is the case, I have still listed separate digitally remastered versions where these (might) exist. Anyone knowing anything more definitive, please let me know.
It may also cross your mind that listing a recording as separate purely because it has been digitally remastered is appallingly pedantic. You could be right. On the other hand, as Carl Magnus Palm points out in The Complete Recording Sessions, "When remixing a track, it is impossible to get it to sound exactly like it did the first time" (p. 54). This is certainly the case with Lovelight, which has been substantially altered in the version currently available on CD.
The Australian release of ABBA Gold does not feature remastered versions of I Have A Dream, Super Trouper or Thank You For The Music, replacing them with remastered versions of I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, Ring Ring and Rock Me. The latter is unique to this Australian release.
