So why do a site on Wham!?
Given that there are already dozens of George Michael-related sites around, why, you may ask, is Gusworld doing one devoted specifically to Wham!, a group which went kerplunk more than a decade ago and which many people probably forgot until the recent The Best Of Wham! compilation reminded them, and then forgot about all over again?
Apart from giving us an excuse to write long sentences like the last one, there are several reasons:
- Most of the existing George sites focus heavily on his more recent stuff, and downplay the Wham! years, much as George himself does. There are a few exceptions, but I couldn't find much stuff with the kind of mind-numbing fan-obsessive detail I demand of a Web site.
- I've been meaning for a while to do a proper track-by-track guide to Wham's material on CD. Having done so, it seemed sensible to build a proper section on Gusworld to house it.
- There's already lots of Wham!-related commentary on Gusworld, so this was a good place to bring it together.
- The 80s rock, man.
So go ahead, enjoy what's on offer. Or not. Whatever. Just enjoy what you do.
