Single Of The Week 07/01/97

Single Of The Week is where I review a single I'm particularly enamoured of at the moment. It might be a brand spanking new release, or a classic from decades past that I just feel like going on about.

Savage Garden

Single Of The Week prides itself on gushing over at the rims with trivial information about the record on display. So it comes as something of an embarrassment to admit that the sum total of my knowledge about 'To The Moon And Back', a single currently nestled in the upper reaches of the Top 10, is fairly limited, beyond the important and somewhat obvious fact that I like it.

The sum total of my knowledge about Savage Garden:

Clearly, I need to buy some teenybopper magazines and do some further research.

The single itself includes a 'Radio Edit' and an 'Album Version', essentially identical to the former except for an extended introduction (even the radio edit clocks in at over 5 minutes, though). As well, there's two (presumed) non-album tracks, 'Santa Monica' and 'Memories Are Designed To Fade', produced by the band themselves. The former is a gentle, wry ballad, while the latter is one of the most accurate clones of the early Culture Club sound I've ever heard. And why not?
