Single Of The Week 02/04/97

Single Of The Week is where I review a single I'm particularly enamoured of at the moment. It might be a brand spanking new release, or a classic from decades past that I just feel like going on about.

All I Wanna Do Is Dance

For some time now, I've been planning on doing a Collette home page. (I mean, if I don't, who will?) Making this 'tune' -- Collette's second -- Single of the Week is basically just a cheap tactic to get myself into gear by presenting you with all the information you could ever want on Australia's most famous set of bicycle pants.

For that reason, I'll keep hold back some of the flood of trivia, and just remind you that this song, which went Top 20 if I remember rightly, was the second most successful of Collette's short career. Despite that, for some reason, it didn't make it onto the immortal J&B compilation The Best Of Collette & Sharon O'Neil. It also marked the first, but not the last, time that Collette would help write her own songs, one of those fatal mistakes that dance bimbos make from time to time. Check the lyrics of the chorus:

All I wanna do is dance
Yeah dance
All I wanna do
All I wanna do
All I wanna do
Is dance

Collette also designed the cover of this single.

My clearest memory of this record is Collette's performance of it on Countdown Revolution. Ms Roberts wore a particularly cheesy set of bike pants, and was accompanied by two male dancers wearing black and white striped underpants, who appeared to have been choreographed by an extra from That's Dancin'! A classic if not exactly career-enhancing move.
