Single Of The Week is where I review a single I'm particularly enamoured of at the moment. It might be a brand spanking new release, or a classic from decades past that I just feel like going on about.
I Am Thin And Gorgeous

This is conceptual plagiarism at its finest. Music fans with taste will doubtless recall the 1994 'Absolutely Fabulous' single by the Pet Shop Boys, which combined a driving dance beat with samples from the BBC comedy (now receiving a completely unnecessary replay on Channel Seven, of all places). Recorded for Comic Relief (the second of three times that Jennifer Saunders would be involved in a Comic Relief project, making her the clear champ in this area), it was a bit of a global hit, and an essential addition to the Gusworld collection.
Three years down the track, we have 'I Am Thin And Gorgeous' by Junior Vasquez's Ab Fab. which combines a driving dance beat with samples from the BBC comedy, and isn't even for charity. So how do the two projects compare?
Despite the niggling feeling that it's just another example of some dance DJ flogging a concept to death, though, I had to buy this single. I mean, if you're obsessed, you're obsessed.
