Rant Of The Day is where I get to mouth off about whatever I feel like for however long I like. Theoretically, I'll update my whinge/opinion piece every weekday; in practice, maybe not so often.
My Muppet obsession is actually one of the less developed areas of Gusworld, save for my frequent and bitter ravings on the subject of Grover versus Elmo. However, as a child growing up in the 1970s, the decade in which both Sesame Street and The Muppet Show reigned supreme, it's not at all surprising.
As an adult fumbling around in the 1990s, my biggest complaint about going to see Muppet films at the movies is being the only adult there who isn't accompanying a gaggle of screaming brats. Granted, they may like the songs more than I do (although I'm probably one of the few people who actually purchased the soundtrack to Muppet Treasure Island, but most of the humour is going to go way over their heads. (I had a similar problem when I went to see Spiceworld, although in that case the brats were usually deserted entirely by their parents. What this tells us about the world I'm not entirely sure.)
I've got no idea when Muppets From Space will hit Australian screens, but reportedly the plot centers around Gonzo's attempting to discover his true origins. This is good, insofar as Gonzo deserves a starring role (Frank Oz is unlikely to perform Miss Piggy or Fozzie for that long, and Dave Goelz is the next-longest performing Muppeteer). It's not so good insofar as we may not actually want to know. However, it is pleasing to note that some of the new characters introduced for Muppets Tonight, such as Bobo the Bear, also make cameo appearances, to judge from the publicity shots. Brats or no, I'll be racing out to see this one when it finally (ahem) lands.
