Rant Of The Day THIS RANT 04/05/99

Rant Of The Day is where I get to mouth off about whatever I feel like for however long I like. Theoretically, I'll update my whinge/opinion piece every weekday; in practice, maybe not so often.

The fact that Gusworld hasn't been updated in more than six weeks has led to more than one panicky email asking if the site has permanently died. Panic not, dear reader. I've recently returned from a four-week trip from the UK, which made updating the site a tad difficult. (Since I returned, I've also been swamped with work, but I won't bore you with that.)

Needless to say, the various aspects of this trip are likely to dominate the content of Gusworld for some weeks to come. There are at least two reasons for this:

So you can look forward to plenty of old-Blighty related material in the coming weeks. Foremost amongst these will be reams (and I do mean reams) of material on Mamma Mia!, the new musical based on the songs of ABBA. It was the chance to catch this musical (in fact, I saw it twice in the previews, as well as lurking around outside for six or seven hours on the day of the premiere) that convinced me to break with longstanding practice and actually take a holiday.

And it was well worth it, let me tell you. I laughed, I (almost) cried, I resisted the urge to sing along, and I got to stand just a metre away from Bjorn and Benny (even if I didn't manage to get an autograph). It's amazing how exciting I found this, or perhaps it isn't, given my lifelong obsession with ABBA and the other musical projects these guys have been associated with.

It makes for pretty much a perfect holiday, I tell you, even without the endless CD shopping and video buying and seeing the sights and catching up with the relatives. All in all, I can now recommend holidays, especially if you get to meet your pop idols.

As soon as the pictures of Benny, Bjorn et al are developed, this site will be the first to know. If you're in London, I can't recommend the show highly enough. I'll be back to see it as soon as is humanly possible (so I'm hoping it will have a long run).
