Rant Of The Day is where I get to mouth off about whatever I feel like for however long I like. Theoretically, I'll update my whinge/opinion piece every weekday; in practice, maybe not so often.
Quite aside from the fact that it doesn't crash every 30 seconds (unlike my PC when I use it for games playing), the PlayStation has enough stupidly addictive games to guarantee it a place in my increasingly crowded life. I'm very enamoured of Gran Turismo, even though I've mostly only used it in two-player mode and hence have only scratched the surface of its capabilities. I also like Bust-A-Move-2 (which I have on my GameBoy for use in emergencies). However, the game which has sucked up the biggest chunk of my time remains Crash Bandicoot, one of the first platform hits on the platform and a veritable old-timer in PS gaming terms (going back to 1996).
I've always been a sucker for a good platformer, but what makes Crash really good is the sheer depth of the game. There are 32 levels, and after some serious hard slog I've still only finished 23 of them. Plus, unlike most other platform titles, your perspective changes with nearly every level, making the gameplay much less predictable. It looks like Crash Bandicoot 2 and 3 offer even more of this, but I'm not coughing up the money for them until I finish the first one.
It's fast, it's fun, and even the music is almost tolerable. In short, if you don't have it, go and buy it sometime soon, maybe. In the meantime, I can also recommend the Desktop Crash for PC users, who dances around your screen in an annoying and pointless but amusing fashion.
