Rant Of The Day is where I get to mouth off about whatever I feel like for however long I like. Theoretically, I'll update my whinge/opinion piece every weekday; in practice, maybe not so often.
There was a very unpleasant moment when I was updating Gusworld on Monday. As I attempted in vain to copy over the all-important Frida picture, my FTP program bluntly informed me that I was all out of disk space. I was well aware that my OzEmail account had a 5M limit, but I had thought it might take more than six months for one opinionated dude to fill it.
I have to admit that the subsequent delays in updating these pages have had little to do with that development, and a lot to do with a pile of papers on my desk that would give any right-thinking environmentalist a heart attack. But the fact that I have no space on the server (yes, I had to delete something to make room for this, and you get a prize if you can tell me what it was) has been no mean disencouragement either. Now, though, I must act.
Careful readers of this page (who haven't suffered despair at its erratic nature in parallel with my despair at my lack of sleep) will remember that some time ago I hinted that these pages would be moving to a new location real soon now. Real soon now just got real sooner.
By a fortunately bizarre coincidence, I'm scheduled to take a week off shortly, which should do wonders for my general psyche. As part of that, I pledge to complete the migration of Gusworld to its new mystery location. In a little under a week-and-a-half, its new shiny interface, with lots of other sexy stuff I haven't thought of yet, will be yours to enjoy. Unfortunately, after tomorrow I probably won't have time to place any more rants, singles or other paraphernalia until after the move is done (when I'll just tell y'all to hotfoot it over to the new site). Focus is a wonderful thing.
Doubtless, many of you won't notice the difference, given the gradual decay in my once-pristine daily update schedule. I realise in this respect I have little hope of competing with the 80s Server, PC Week or even continually updated photographs of people's rear ends. But time is my enemy. Time, and now, as it turns out, space.
(Oh, and Share A Secret fans, I promise to do the update before the end of the week. It's just that I'm in shock because Woman's Day has had a redesign, and overdosing on pastels is not good for the soul. Plus, the copy of the magazine is somewhere on my desk, which is the psychological equivalent of saying I may never see it again.)
