Rant Of The Day is where I get to mouth off about whatever I feel like for however long I like. Theoretically, I'll update my whinge/opinion piece every weekday; in practice, maybe not so often.
Consisting of nothing more than a CD-ROM and a plasticky piano keyboard overlay that doesn't fit on my PC keyboard properly, this little wonder is designed to allow you to solo, play, or drum along with a selection of pre-programmed tracks. (You can also drum along to your favourite CDs, but I couldn't get the drums to work properly). The track selection is not very inspiring;who in their right mind wants to play along with 'Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue' or 'Minnie The Moocher'? I settled for the aforementioned Tears For Fears track and Adamski's 'Killer' as the ones that took my fancy. Within seconds, I'd managed to install it and was using the automatic chord adaptive software to improvise solos atop that sloping bass groove. (Well, it didn't have as much slope or bass as it might; I blame the Howard government.)
I was a bit irritated when the melody play feature didn't show the melody I was actually meant to play, but it's early days yet. There's no manual, but I'm going to crack this bastard. Then I'm going to commission a million-selling remix and write my own book on chart-hyping. It's all there, just waiting for me . . . or perhaps not.
Would I pay $39.95 for it? Possibly not. Will I be using it to irritate my neighbours? Quite probably. Moral: don't live near me.
