Rant Of The Day is where I get to mouth off about whatever I feel like for however long I like. Theoretically, I'll update my whinge/opinion piece every weekday; in practice, maybe not so often.
It wasn't a glamour injury. I stubbed my toe on a chair on Friday night. Nothing very unusual in that. What was unusual was that my toe was still swollen and in some pain the next morning. What was even more unusual was that I subsequently found I couldn't walk. Not a good look on a Saturday morning when alcohol isn't involved.
It cost me $55, two doctors, an X-ray and three mildly agonising walks around my local shopping centre to find out my toe wasn't broken, just jarred to within an inch of its nerve endings. I was given some pain killers and told to put my foot up. Now I know how Mike Munro must feel.
No-one takes an injury to the little toe seriously. My friends were incredulous. "But it's your little toe," they said. "Why can't you just balance on your heel?" Try it some time is all that I can say. You need that toe. Your body is a finely balanced instrument and life is about not keeping it in tune.
Is there a point here? No, not really. This is my place to rant and pain makes me want to rant. Thank you for listening.
